The Grey Funnel Line

Don't mind the rain or the rolling sea

The weary night never worried me

But the hardest time in a sailors day

Is to watch the sun as it dies away

  CHORUS

Here's one more day on the grey funnel line

The finest ship that sail's the sea

Is still a prison to the likes of me

But if I had wings like Noah's dove

I'd fly up harbour to the girl I love

  CHORUS

There was a time when I was free

Like a floating spar on the open sea

But now that spar is washed ashore

And comes to rest at my real loves door

   CHORUS

Every time I gaze behind the screw's

Makes me long for old Peter's shoe's

Then I'd walk on down that sillver lane

And I'd take my girl in my arms again

  CHORUS

Oh lord if only dreams were real

I'd stand behind that wooden wheel

And with all my heart i'd turn her round

And I'd tell the boy's that were homeward bound

  CHORUS

I pass my time like some machine

Untill the blue water turns to green

Then I'd dance on down that walk ashore

And I'd sail the Grey Funnel Line no more.
